Picture of Things to Come! While America girds itself for another onslaught of The Beatles and their often hysterical fans, the boys themselves — two of the married ones, that is — are also preparing for their happy ordeal. They’re on holiday. Where? Where else but the fabled Robinson Crusoe Island of Tobago in the romantic Caribbean. For nine days, John and Cynthia Lennon and Ringo and Maureen Starr became tropical adventurers looking for buried treasure — or at least Robinson Crusoe’s man Friday. In between forays, they’d stop for a swim in the sparkling blue ocean or take time out for a Scotch-and-Coke, or sample the island’s native rum.
Even on faraway Tobago, there was a fan to oblige with an autograph. They never did find their treasure — too many distractions — but they were honored with a luncheon given by the Prime Minister of the country. And they got a chance to walk freely, without a pack of shrieking, loving girls after them. You’ll get your chance to scream, faint, and maybe listen, in August and September, when all the Beatles are here for their third visit to America — and their beloved fans.
