Fish and boater friendly features have been incorporated into the Tusher Wash project design by providing sufficient water for bypass flows and an associated structure for upstream fish passage, as well as providing downstream fish passage via notches in the diversion structure. Other improvements include incorporating passive integrated transponder (PIT) tag detectors to sense and record fish movement over and around the diversion, adding a fish screen and bypass at the diversion canal, providing both dry and wet downstream boat passage past the diversion structure, and installing boater warning signs upstream of the diversion for public safety. Partial funding comes from the National Fish Passage Program. Other partners include the Desert Fish Habitat Partnership, NRCS and the Utah Water Conservation District.
